HISTORY of ASHWORTH
Established in 1987, Ashworth apparel revolutionized
the golf apparel industry. The intention was to shift
the fashion movement in the golf world and develop a
look that was more in tune with the present fashion
styles. Ashworth begin to design basic 100% cotton
shirts with a soft collar in order to bring a West
Coast look to the game of golf. Within 10 years the
company became the #1 apparel brand in golf and by the
late 90's had established a positive movement in the
direction of golf apparel.
As the company began to flourish, it was obvious that
Ashworth would benefit greatly from tour player
representation. The two young players that Ashworth
sought out were John Cook and Fred Couples, who both
grew up on the West Coast and were up and coming stars
on the PGA Tour. Ashworth signed Fred Couples to a
lifetime contract while John was signed to a multiyear deal.
The biggest year for Ashworth, Inc. on tour was in
1992 when Fred Couples won The Nissan L.A. Open,
Nestle Open, and The Masters. Today, Ashworth has one
of the largest tour presences among golf apparel
companies with Tour Players: Fred Couples, Chris
DiMarco, Steve Flesch, Rich Beem, Stuart Appleby and Pat Bates.
Over the years, Ashworth has revolutionized the golf
apparel industry. As the original global golf apparel
company, Ashworth has long been recognized as a brand
to bring cutting edge innovation and sophisticated
styling onto the golf course. The Ashworth brand is
sold worldwide in over 20 countries. Today the Company
also designs additional products to be worn off
course, in the office and in casual lifestyle environments.
A brand rooted in tradition, Ashworth's heritage is
one of successfully building a foundation based on
those virtues of golf's mysterious appeal - honor,
sportsmanship, integrity and belief.
